Music Monday – DJ Sona – Kinect

Music Monday – A game themed song every Monday I already dropped this one on Twitter and people thought it was a good idea. I don’t think there are enough people promoting the awesome sounds of games and my growing game OST map only shows that more developers are willing to give us access to just their songs. Expect awesomeness, but if you have suggestions, please let me know in the comments or on Twitter.

This is one of the songs Riot Games made for the new Ultimate Skin, DJ Sona. She actually has her own soundtrack which she plays for her team mates. The skin isn’t out yet, but I’m going to buy it. I love Sona, and this really is a great idea. She can switch forms and has a different song for each form. Team mates can opt in to listen to her songs or opt out if they want to listen to their own music. /toggle will let you change her form.

I’m not a big fan of dance music, but lately I’m listening to some light dubstep while gaming, because it’s relaxing. I thing DJ Sona’s songs will fit perfectly in that playlist, although they’re slightly more aggressive. All three songs have their own still. This one, Kinect, fits very well in the dance-genre, Concussive (DJ Sona’s red skin) is more on-beat. It reminds me of SSX3’s soundtrack, which I think still one of the best. Ethereal (DJ Sona’s blue/purple skin) is very mellow and the most relaxing of the three.

I honestly think that Riot is doing a great job in producing high quality music for League of Legends and for the lore. I mean, Pentakill is one of my favorite albums and The Curse of the Sad Mummy is still on repeat.

Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne

The PlayList – Going back to the beginning

I didn’t play much, because my body is still recovering from bruises and sitting hurts my butt. But I did play some. My friends invited me to play Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne with them. I never really played before and was unfamiliar with the Tower Defense mechanisms that are in custom maps. I really sucked in the beginning. Also because no one told me what to do, but after five matches, I had the top score.

This wasn’t the first time I played Warcraft 3. I played it almost half a lifetime ago (about 12 years ago). That was the first time I actually met my boyfriend outside of school or the school forum. He let me play Warcraft 3 on his pc while he explained it to me. I don’t remember much of it, to be honest, besides the butterflies in my stomach.

I should probably play a bit more, or maybe just the campaign, because Warcraft 3 is an awesome game. No, I’ll never play World of Warcraft, but I’ll play this. I’m guessing that we’ll be playing this again on the lanparty which is scheduled for April. I’ll add this to my list of awesome classics to play with friends, together with Settlers 3.

The other game I played is Guild Wars 2, of course. It’s always my main game. We played some PvP with guildies. Some were new to PvP, so we didn’t win everything, but we had a lot of fun. I even managed to complete my first reward track. I started with the Ascalonian Catacombs track, because I really like the skins. It’s a repeatable track so you can unlock all the dungeon skins and finish the dungeon collection. The next track I’m going to do is the Crucible of Eternity reward track. I need the dungeon tokens for The Crossing. That’ll take me a while before I have enough tokens.

This week was also the Chinese new year, something the original Guild Wars celebrates as the Canthan new year. Yes, these events are still going on. The Canthan new year is one of the few moments the Shing Jae boardwalk opens up and you can play the Nine Rings game. You buy festival tickets, stand on one of the nine rings in a three by three grid and let luck be your mistress. The system will choose on the rings as a winner. Any adjacent ring will win slightly less tickets. It costs 10 tickets to play. The center ring will be awarded 25 tickets and the corner rings 55 tickets when it wins. Adjacent rings will win 15 tickets. The biggest reason people are playing this game is to max out the Lucky and Unlucky title tracks. If you’re unfamiliar with the original Guild Wars’ title tracks, most take several years to max out. I’m only at tier 1 of both titles which is maybe 10% at most of the complete track.

I started the game, bought the tickets and AFK’ed in the rings and turned it off again when I went to bed.

Dragon Age: Origins - Alistair

Some things NPCs say… Oh, Alistair. You’re a big idiot some times.. Most times.

Character Creation Elf Male – Dragon Age: Inquisition

Tarakona Kohimuhimu - Guild Wars 2

Tyria Times – To-Do List Before Heart of Thorns

Even before the announcement of Heart of Thorns, I’d written a list of all the things that I want to do in Guild Wars 2 this year. The coming of the expansion has only made me more excited and pushed the deadline forward. I don’t want to complete all of this, this year, but before the expansion hits. Since I’ve no idea when it’ll come, I’ll have to hurry up :)

The PlayList – Resolutions

It’s the end of January and I haven’t been posting much. I recovered from a busy holiday season and then I was in a car accident, with a bike, two weeks ago. But as you might have seen, two types of posts have been posted consistently since 2015 started: character creation videos and screenshots on Saturdays. I wanted to add some visual spice to my blog and this is just the beginning. I have more plans and one of them is to post on a more regular basis.

The character creation videos are a for personal research. Character customization and development has always interested me for a long time. I recorded about two dozen videos already and they’ll be uploaded to my YouTube account and shared here later. I will use these videos later for a more extensive article/essay on character creation in (MMO)RPGs.

Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I have also written down a small to-do list of things I want achieve in Guild Wars 2 (post is up now). With the expansion, Heart of Thorns, coming later this year, it’s an excellent time to complete some things of old and start getting ready for the new content. Are you excited? I am.

Besides that I still want to complete some games from my backlog. I want to complete all the DLC of Dragon Age: Origins, one or two visual novels (Fading Hearts and Always Remember Me) and a few indie games from bundles. One game I want to finish is Faerie Solitaire. I’m about a quarter in and I’ll keep playing it in between things. Another one is Evoland. I’m stuck halfway through the game and I think when I’m pasted that point, I’ll be able to finish it.

I have no ambitions in League of Legends beyond just playing with friends and enjoying (mostly) friendly ARAM games.

Guild Wars

I’m still working on filling out my Hall of Monuments in Guild Wars and you can see some progress here.

The Curse of the Sad Mummy

Riot has released a new EP with 15 songs of League of Legends. This is one of the new theme songs for a champion. The themes for Nami, Jinx, Quinn, Braum, Rumble, Lulu and Shaco and Veigar are also there.

Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns Update

Mike O’Brien confirmed that Heart of Thorns to be the first expansion pack during the panel at PAX South. He started with a recap of the manifesto in 2010. He talked about what he wanted for an MMO and what Guild Wars 2 is going to be. Guild Wars 2 was the basis for this and the expansion is another step to the right direction.

There will be no new item tier and no new level cap. Your characters will still be at the top, but there are more ways to progress. Heart of Thorns will introduce a whole lot of new features without throwing the base game away. The old areas and items are still relevant after the expansion is released.

I’m very excited for the expansion. Read on for an overview of the major features announced by Colin Johanson.
